What is the process of adoption?
There are many parts to the adoption process. At By Love and Grace Adoptions, we meet with our potential families in person to discuss and explain this process. It is important to us to get to know you better and for you to feel you know who you are working with as well.

Who Can Adopt?
Under Utah law, any married couple can adopt, and any single adult that does NOT co-habitate with another. Families will not be discriminated on the basis of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity, cultural heritage, or national origin. Adoptive families will be chosen with the best interests of the child in mind. Each placement will be considered carefully based on compliance with the laws of discrimination.

Can We Adopt If We Have Other Children?
Yes, absolutely. In most cases the Birthmothers choose the family they want, to adopt their baby. Some Birthmothers prefer that the family have other children so that the baby can have siblings.

  How Long Does it Take?
It is different in every situation because our agency allows Birth Parents to choose the baby's family. However, on an average, families are matched between one month and one year.

  Is it Expensive to adopt?
It can be! However, By Love and Grace Adoptions, is committed to keeping adoption affordable. We charge a portion of the total cost at application, and the rest of the fees are not due until match and placement of your child.

  What is a Home Study?
A home study is when a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, comes to your home and visits with you as a family. He/She will cover topics like family composition, marital status, background histories, financial status and obligation, the size of your home and family, motivation to adopt, physical and medical histories, etc.
We want to place children in, to the best of our ability, a loving, safe, stable and healthy home. It is a state requirement as well as a necessary tool to ensure that the best interest of a child is met.
While it can feel intimidating to have someone ask about every facet of your life, it is also a good feeling to know when it is all over with, that your family is seen as a stable, safe, loving and healthy home for children to be raised in!

Can a Birth Mom change her mind?
In the state of Utah, once a Birth Parent signs the Relinquishment of Parental Rights, she/he can NOT change their mind. It is a final decision once the paperwork is signed and can NOT be revoked.
Laws differ from state to state and in some states Birthmothers can change their minds up anytime from 72 hours to 30 days after signing. As your Adoption Agency, we will do our best to ensure that you are aware of legal risk situations from the beginning. If you choose to go with a Birthmother who lives in a state where she has the right to withdraw her Relinquishment for up to a given number of days, you can choose to have your child placed in Foster Care with the Agency, while that time passes. There are other options as well that can be discussed with your caseworker.

We look forward to serving you.
